CLIMBING AT BEAUMONT LEYS LEISURE CENTRE
4 of our members challenged themselves by going rock climbing at a local leisure centre, taking on 3 different heights. We went as 4 intrepid ladies and returned as 4 'monkeys'. Scary to start with but really enjoyed the experience.
SEPTEMBER CENTENARY MEETING 2015
'For our Centenary celebration meeting our speaker was Maggie Dexter, Full of Flavour Cookery School, with a super array of canapés for members to try; we had no idea but she also made us a lovely celebration cake.
At out meeting 3 of our older members, Nancy who has been a member for a number of years, Clarice, who joined a few years ago and Bessie who has recently rejoined. Our President read her tongue in cheek entry to the NFWI competition for a President's Address for 2115; members were given as a commemorative gift: a copy of the Anniversary Poem written by Nancy Burditt; a copy of the poem written by Pauline Wathey in 1977 'To Win That Jubilee Cup'; a packet of leaflets, decorated by Beth Moore, which had been obtained from the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada, where the WI originated and from AFWI (Wales) who sent details of the museum in Anglesey, where the WI started in the United Kingdom; and a centenary serviette. This was followed by wine, cakes and fruit provided by our WI and served by our 2 very handsome 'waiters' the husbands of 2 members, Rick Heap and David Hoult.'

STONEY STANTON COMMITTEE AFTERNOON TEA 2016
This year instead of an evening meal it was decided to go to Ellen Louse Tearooms in Hinckley for Afternoon Tea, served in the old fashioned way, tea from a teapot with sandwiches, scones and cakes. There were also may retro items to look at.
In 2016 we had afternoon tea at 34 Windsor Street. Burbage, Hinckley. It was super, tiny sandwiches, scones and cake; they could even cope with special diets, fat free, sandwiches no butter, meringues with sorbet and fat free cake; all lovely
VISITS TO Kilworth House Open Theatre 2014/15/16
It was a balmy evening when members and friends had a picnic followed by a super production of South Pacific,
Annual Mystery Trips 2014/15/16
In August this year we had an evening trip to Stanford Hall. We had an afternoon tea and then Wendy Chamberlain, our President, who does tours round the Hall, gave us a guided tour during which one of our members, Cynthia Shepherd, played on the baby grand in the Ballroom and we all sang Jerusalem followed by Moon River; the acoustics were lovely. This was followed by an evening of 40s songs, led by Lynda Styan.
Visit to Burghley House. How lucky with the weather. The Friday before is rained all day but we had balmy conditions. The House was super and the audio meant we could learn all about the rooms. The grounds and gardens were superb. This was followed by a lovely tea provided by Great Eastern and District WI.

HIGHCROSS GROUP MEETING 2016
Hosted this year by Barwell WI at the Greene King Stadium, Hinckley. Our Speaker was the winner of the first BBC Sewing Bee competition, Heather Jacks, who gave us an amusing description of the experience from start to finish. Collage of some of the things she made below. To be recommended.
This year we did not have a competition but held a display of crafts from members of the WI Institutes in Highcross Group.

This was hosted by Earl Shilton Afternoon at the Age Concern Centre, Earl Shilton. The speaker was author, Rosie Goodwin, who spoke about her life and how she became a author; Rosie judged the competition which was a bookmark, won by Elmesthorpe WI, Barwell WI second and our WI third which our member Beth Moore compiled. Highcross Annual Group Meeting 2014
In 2014 this was hosted by our WI in the Social Club Stoney Stanton. The speaker was Stuart Dixon BA9hons) CPSE. MI HORT. Horticultural Lecturer/Writer/Broadcaster. The competition was a 'Potting Shed' won by Stoney Stanton WI.
MUNRO CUP ENTRY FOR HIGHCROSS GROUP 2015
This was arranged by the President of Stoney Stanton WI, Wendy Chamberlain, on behalf of Highcross Group
Unfortunately for the first year we can remember it poured all day. Although the procession did go ahead the events on the Playing Field were postponed to later in the year. WI ladies this year walked at 'Little Women' from Louise May Alcott's book.
Making a Quilt for Mablethorpe Children's Home 2014
Our 'teachers' Ann and Jean were delighted with our efforts and took it home to put the finishing touches. As you can see we did not go hungry during our efforts. The finished pillow and the quilt which has 'Stoney Stanton WI 2014' embroidered in the bottom corner are shown below is shown being delivered to the Leicestershire office for the Mablethorpe's Children's Home.
Full of Flavour Cookery School 2014
Members and friends attended a cookery day at the Full of Flavour Cookery School, run by Maggie Dexter in Gilmorton. On the day we made Rosemary and Garlic Focaccia Bread and Chocolate Eclairs. Marilyn is making the eclairs and Helen is ensuring the chocolate is perfect. The finished Focaccia Bread was delicious as of course were the eclairs.
Poppies knitted in 2014
In 2014 poppy seeds were planted at Manorfield Primary School to commemorate the First World War; just when it was time to pick them they were mown down. Members of the Community, including our WI, knitted over a 1000 poppies which were then attached to a wall at the School.
Craft Fairs
Stallholders above selling cushions, dolls, teddy bears etc; lovely sweets and children having a go at pastel drawing; childrens temporary tattoos; one of our members manning the Leicestershire Federation gifts stall.
Below ladies in the kitchen serving lovely refreshments and showing our super cakes, one of which was a Mary Berry special; children having temporary tattoos and doing sugar craft together with members of the public enjoying their refreshments.
STRAWBERRY AND WINE 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016
Val Duke 2012, Nick Grounds 2013 and Lorena Dyer 2014, and Tony Brown 2015, Pauline Foster 2016, NAFAS demonstrators with some of their designs demonstrated at the Stoney Stanton Strawberry and Wine evenings. Profits from this event in 2013 and 2014, 2016 went to LOROS, Leicestershire Hospice. 2015 went to Rainbows, Children's hospice. The first first collage shows 2 of our oldest members arriving early with their daughters, showed in the 2nd photograph, who were running the raffle; 3rd picture was the helpers plus Sam our Sound Man, having a rest after setting up.
Denman visit in August 2013 - this was our Annual Mystery Trip in 2013 which was followed by afternoon tea at a WI close to Denman.
This is a collage of the NAFAS joint event showing a 2 days event which included floral displays in the garden and rooms of the main house with group instruction at various times of the day on different aspects in the art of flower arranging. Our WI took the opportunity of visiting the event as our Annual Mystery Trip 2013. Some members have since returned to take part in other residential courses
Diamond Jubilee Celebration
Our WI had arranged to have a Garden Party to recognise the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The summer was dreadful that year but not to be beaten we hold our event in our local Village Community Hall with ladies in their posh frocks and hats and served refreshments by 2 member's husbands.

2009 Ladies at Ascot; 2010 The Bee Movie; 2011 Robin Hood and his merry men; 2012 The Suffragettes; 2013 The Pied Piper and his rats (with our Honorary member Phil as the Pied Piper. In 2014 we walked as Ladies from the Sub-Continent in saris loaned by a friend of a member and 2015 the theme being a book we went as Little Women, unfortunately as you can see it poured with rain all day. Not sure if the frocks grew and the ladies shrank. 2016, to celebrate the Queen's official birthday, our float was a Coronation Tea Party.
In November Teresa Fletcher, Dogs for Good, a Charity which used to be called, Dogs for the Disabled, gave us a heart rending but informative talk about why and how she got her dog 'Quartz', a lovely Golden Retriever, who she brought with her together with another dog in training. Her daughter Beth has autism which as a family restricted their life. She heard about Dogs for Good and the transformation was staggering. They could now as a family go shopping, for a meal etc as long as Quartz was there. Teresa had to go on a week's course to learn how her dog could help her family.
DECEMBER 2015 - OUR CHRISTMAS MEETING
A Faith Supper, a competition 'a parcel wrapped to impress', a collection for Toys on the Table in Leicestershire, hand bell ringing by John Vernon and his group, all went to make a lovely Christmas meeting.
Tree planting
These pictures show members planting the original tree donated by Sainsburys which disappeared a couple of hours after it had been planted. The other pictures show a replacement tree being planted in the Calor Wood in our village together with many other saplings planted on that day by WI members and members of the community, including children from the local primary school.
