Great Bowden WI Afternoon Tea.

In place of the usual meeting in January, Great Bowden WI treated themselves to an afternoon cream tea at Emerson & Wests. After the hectic Christmas period it made a welcome break for members to chat and enjoy a delicious tea before the commencement of this year’s activities. The first of which will be the final of the County Darts Championships in which Great Bowden WI play Thorpe Magna WI at the Conservative Club Syston on 15th January. The photograph shows some of our members enjoying the tea and getting the New Year off to a good start.

Pea Green and Canal Art

Great Bowden WI escaped to the world of the Canals with Kay Andrews and her interesting and humorous story of her Pea Green Narrow Boat. Kay who was a University Lecturer became captivated by Canal Boats in 2016 and subsequently fell in love with and purchased a boat which was in a poorer state than she thought. It leaked and the many holes were stuffed with newspaper. She had to bail out 25 litres of water from under the engine, but she managed to get it started and over the years, almost singlehandedly, has completely renovated it. There was a small amount of canal art on the boat which she copied and after much practice now decorates many items which she sells from her boat. A selection of her beautifully decorated wares was on sale for members to purchase.
