About Us
My name is Diane Clarke and I have recently been elected to be President of Glenfield WI. I am supported by an excellent committee and together we plan our monthly meetings and other activities.
I was born in Yorkshire but at the age of three moved with my parents to Leicester. At the age of 21, I married and moved away, living in Northamptonshire and later Devon. My working life was as an accountant for privately owned companies and at times had to juggle it with bringing up my family. I am the proud mother of two daughters and also a doting grandmother. In 2016 my husband took early retirement and we decided to move once again to be nearer to family and eventually settled in Glenfield. It was here that I found the Glenfield WI and decided to go to a meeting as a visitor, not knowing anyone at all. I was made very welcome by everyone there and I have since become a regular member and later joined the committee.
The WI has enabled me to try many new crafts, listened to various interesting speakers covering a wide range of topics, take part in discussions and quizzes but best of all, spend time with many new-found friends and acquaintances. Being President allows me the opportunity to give back to the community, something which I am a great believer in and have volunteered in many areas throughout my adult life.
Glenfield WI is a long established group of approximately 45 members who meet on a monthly basis at St Peters Church Centre, Church Road, Glenfield LE3 8DP every second Wednesday of the month (except July) between 2pm and 4pm. Please come along and join us, you will receive a very warm welcome.
Our Committee works very hard to make meetings interesting with speakers talking about a very wide range of subjects and there is always time for a chat and a cup of tea at the end. There are also extra activities including Craft and Lunch Clubs, trips to the theatre and lots more besides (please see our 'Groups' page).
We would always encourage new members and visitors alike to join us, so why not come along one afternoon and give it a try?
