News from Wing

"At the end of October Wing WI celebrated their 90th birthday in 2016 and also the 100th anniversary of the National WI the previous year by planting an oak tree on the recreation field in the village.  We had some help to dig the hole in the shape of man with excavator but the tree was officially planted by Gloria Whight, a former President of Wing WI, whose idea it was originally to commemorate the two anniversaries in this way. Members of the WI were joined by people from the village on the field and afterwards in the Village Hall for a warming cup of tea accompanied by some delicious cakes.  In spite of having to brave sleet and driving rain on arrival at the hotel, members also enjoyed an anniversary lunch at the beginning of November at Normanton Park Hotel."
