NAILSTONE WI

NAILSTONE WI SAY FARE THEE WEEL...
Christina Macmillan (centre)
Christina Macmillan pictured centre with some of our members, Christina has decided to return to Scotland to be near her son, daughter and grandchildren. Christina will be missed by us all, not only for her expertise in knitting and baking, but an excellent team player in our Skittles and Darts teams.  It was Christina who threw the final winning dart last year, winning us the Trophy. This year we have to defend our title without her.  She was always ready to help in anyway and was a committee member for some years.  Christina had a wonderful way of putting new members at their ease and drawing them into WI and all it had to offer. She has now settled in her new home and sent the following letter to Nailstone;  it sums up the WI very well:

"Being a city dweller, born and bred, I came to village life with some trepidation. I did not know what to expect being a Scottish foreigner. Would I be made welcome? I need not have worried. Enter the WI, an organisation I knew little about.  It is no exaggeration to say it has been a life altering experience. The warm welcome, the acceptance into the fold was heart warming. I did, in the company of friends enjoy a full social life.  Trips to the theatre, enjoyable and varied speakers, outings, and exhibitions, visiting and taking part, all made my life a much fuller experience. To anyone thinking of joining the WI, I say go ahead, join, and you will certainly not regret it.

It is unfortunate that at the moment Scotland does not have the WI movement."

Lucky winner of the final 'flyer' bingo game
Easter bingo night with lots of prizes for lines and full house. The last game is known as a 'flyer'; single tickets are bought for the game with one prize, the Easter hamper, which Stanley is holding in picture.  He was a lucky boy as he won a few games before the end, with Easter eggs as prizes.   Stanley is the grandson of committee member, Hilary.
