Subject: Amy's Vintage

AmyMarket Harborough WI spent an evening being transported back to the 1940s.  Amy Winston-Amy 1Hart from Amy's Vintage in Market Harborough gave a fascinating insight into clothes of the era. The lively presentation included lots of humorous stories and anecdotes relating to the make do and mend culture of the day.  Dresses and blouses were all cut a little shorter to save on material.  Amy brought along beautiful and well loved dresses, coats and jackets, one had even been made from a nylon carpet! Each had a story to tell!  In a time of such austerity ladies were very inventive and clothes were made to last!   It illustrated the sharp contrast with our fashion of today and Amy showed how garments had been repaired almost invisibly.

We were all intrigued with the  array of vintage items on display and interesting discussions followed.  Who knew about OMO?

One member went home with a new hairstyle done in the fashionable Victory Roll style. We all went home having enjoyed a very interesting and informative evening.
