2019

2020 began well for Anstey WI. Attendance was high, including a posse from newly closed Thurcaston and Cropston WI.

AnsteyOur speaker was Samantha Hancock, Cyber Protection Officer at Leicestershire police, on the Ansteysubject of Cyber Awareness, Scams and Fraud. She was accompanied by Tiffany, one of her assistants. Her talk was interesting and very helpful. She began by asking each of us to pass her advice on to two other people. Her watchword: “Accept nothing, Believe nobody, Confirm everything.” We were given many practical tips, including useful websites, and which are the safest settings to select. Take a look at ActionFraud, and getsafeonline.org Or have a word with a member of Anstey WI. We are all clued up now.

ansteyAnstey WI’s December meeting was rich with Christmas cheer. Chris Figgins told two Ansteydelightful seasonal stories, and then the Cocktail Shaker Boys spoke about the art of cocktail making. We learned about the ingredients. Who knew that Cointreau is simply a triple sec, for instance? Then came the best bit: the demonstration of making a Cosmopolitan and a Grasshopper, as well as two non-alcoholic mocktails, all of which we were able to sample.

There followed supper, and a visit from Santa and one of his elves. A good time had been had by all, and we went home more than ready for all the festivities.

The Jubilee Hall was a hive of industry for Anstey WI in August.  Members were busy fashioning ornaments for their tree at the Christmas Gala, in a variety of media.  We really think ahead!  Tongues were just as busy as hands on this very sociable occasion, so a good time was had by all.
