We had an entertaining talk from Malcolm Wells M.B.E. which he called " So Far So Good" and we did not know what to expect. He has had an interesting and varied life. Leaving school able to play the cello he joined the Royal Artillery Philharmonic Orchestra which opened up many opportunities to play all over Europe and at Buckingham Palace at investitures and for dinners with visiting dignitaries. When the Northern Ireland troubles were at their height the entire orchestra retrained and worked as medics, living in the Maze prison in Belfast. During the Iraq war the orchestra built a160 bed hospital (like "Mash") in the desert in nine and a half hours. The orchestra is in demand to play at Wembley and live on BBC and ITV for matches.

Malcolm has spent years also working for many charities - guide dogs for the blind and disabled children - and he was awarded his MBE for these services. He now raises money for "Literacy in a box" which provides a back pack full of school equipment for children in third world countries. The pack is replenished every term. This charity takes no money for administration, every penny raised is used for the benefit of the children.
